Ahead of March's festival we give a rundown of who's playing, where and when
March sees the return of the 6 Music Festival to Manchester, its permanent home, and much like every other year it boasts an intriguing variety of artists performing in venues across the long weekend.
So here's a breakdown of who's playing, what day and where.
Thursday 7 March
Victoria Warehouse: Young Fathers / Hak Baker / SHERELLE (DJ set)
Edinburgh's genre-bending Mercury Prize winners Young Fathers are the first headliners of the 2024 festival, bringing a heady cocktail of songs from their four albums, including last year's Heavy Heavy, to Victoria Warehouse.
This is followed by a set from Hak Baker, the up and coming East London songwriter performing his self-styled 'G-folk', hot on the heels of a standout 2023 that included an acoustic set on Glastonbury's TV coverage.
Closing Thursday's festivities at Victoria Warehouse is a set from jungle, rave and dancehall DJ, NTS and now 6 Music host SHERELLE.
BBC Introducing at Band on the Wall: Porij / Witch Fever / OneDa
BBC Introducing has been the springboard for countless bands and artists that now enjoy enormous success (Ed Sheeran may be shit but he's definitely busy). The latest names to be lauded as future stars are a trio either hailing from Manchester or n0w calling the city home: onetime RNCM students and now arty electro oddballs Porij; 'perpetually pissed off' Doom Punk four-piece Witch Fever; and Hulme-born rapper and labelmate of the achingly cool Heavenly Recordings, OneDa.
New Music Fix Live at Yes: Yyre / Rainy Miller B2B LCY / Iceboy Violet B2B 96 Back / Space Afrika B2B Mica Levi
As with any new music, it's best to simply go along and give it a listen.
Friday 8 March
Victoria Warehouse: Gossip / CMAT / AFRODEUTSCHE (DJ set)
A blast of nostalgia for any readers of 00's NME, art rock band Gossip bring their first new music since 2019 to Victoria Warehouse. There's also Irish star and country-pop artist CMAT and a DJ set from 6 Music's own AFRODEUTSCHE.
Indie Forever at Band on the Wall: Nathan Shepherd / Lolly Adefope / Lily Fontaine (English Teacher) / Amy Lamé
An evening of indie bangers is in store at the famous Band on the Wall, courtesy of 6 Music DJ and owner of a cracking 'do, Nathan Shepherd, standup and star of Ghosts Lolly Adefope, lead singer of indie darlings English Teacher, Lily Fontaine and 6 Music vet Amy Lamé.
Saturday 9 March
Victoria Warehouse: The Smile / Jordan Rakei / Mary Anne Hobbs & Anna Phoebe (DJ set)
It's a big one. Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood and drummer Tom Skinner headline as The Smile, performing the loose-limbed jazzy explorations of their new album, Wall of Eyes. There's also New Zealand songwriter Jordan Rakei and DJ sets from Anna Phoebe and whisperin' Mary Anne Hobbs.
Rave Forever at Victoria Warehouse: Not Bad for A Girl DJs / DJ Paulette / I. Jordan / DJ Seinfeld B2B Salute / Daphni
A rave-worthy array of DJs long into the night at Victoria Warehouse.
The Morning After Mix at Ramona: Konny Kon (Children of Zeus - DJ set)
