Stop for food or stay a while at The Inn
RENOVATED only recently, The Inn at South Stainley now offers a stylish stop for food or even stopover if you fancy staying a bit longer, located, as it is, halfway between the picturesque historic city of Ripon and popular market town Harrogate.
Perfect if you fancy a cup of Earl Grey and a Fondant Fancy at the famous Bettys tearooms, and handy for the exciting and prestigious Ripon Races. Also on the doorstep is the UNESCO World Heritage Site Fountains Abbey, the Royal Horticultural Society Garden at Harlow Carr and natural phenomenon Brimham Rocks, great for climbing, walking or just enjoying the wide open spaces of North Yorkshire.
The catch of the day choices make the most of whatever fish and shellfish has just been landed on the North West and North East coasts, The Inn at South Stainley sitting happily in between.
Head back to The Inn at South Stainley after a day exploring, and, as well as a warm welcome and a sunny aspect in the extensive beer garden, you’ll be able to feed that appetite you’ll have worked up. The menu is updated every day with specials plucked from the market choices that morning, and you can expect filling meat dishes and British classics like steak and mushroom pie made with suet pastry and served with braised red cabbage and chunky chips or haddock and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce.
In fact, seafood is a bit of a speciality – there’s a fish platter to share, a fruits de mer available to pre order and the catch of the day choices to make the most of whatever fish and shellfish has just been landed on the North West and North East coasts, The Inn at South Stainley sitting happily in between. The pub, in fact, has something of a seafaring heritage – founder Joycelyn’s father is a renowned fish merchant and her family history can trace an involvement in the fishing industry dating back to the 18th century.
Another speciality at The Inn is the selection of house pizzas, including the Black & Blue, with toppings of rump steak, wild mushrooms and locally sourced Shepherd’s Purse Harrogate Blue cheese, and a choice of Sunday roasts. Sitting alongside is creative contemporary world food – think Persian spiced chicken breast with jewelled rice, rose petal harissa, almonds and yoghurt or fragrantly spiced vegan Imam Byaldi aubergine and tomato stew with Fattoush salad and couscous.
Food is served all day, every day at The Inn at South Stainley, with breakfast from 8am until 11am, and the main menu available until 8.30pm on Sunday, until 9pm Monday to Thursday, and until 10pm on Friday and Saturday.
