Most festivals don’t begin with their headliners as the opening act. Then again, Beacons Metro isn’t like most festivals...
If the set we witnessed at Primavera earlier this year is anything to go by, this one is guaranteed to be a strong start to Beacons Metro.
First up on the bill is alt-rock legends Dinosaur Jr, who are set to hit up the stage at Stylus serving up the finest, fuzziest, feel-good riffs from their new album and eleven record-strong back catalogue.
The latest album shows why they’re the veterans flying the flag for East Coast alt-rock. Feedback and distortion-heavy jams like “I Walk for Miles” and “Tiny” showcase what the Jurassic 3 do best with frontman J Mascis crooning over the heavy lead guitars, delivering the best of their prog sound with and melodic sonic onslaught.
If the electric energy of their set we witnessed at Primavera earlier this year is anything to go by, this one is guaranteed to be a strong, heavy start to Beacons Metro. Any fans of drawly 80’s alt-rock big guns like The Pixies, My Bloody Valentine and Mudhoney (another Primavera fave) would be mad to miss this one.
And if you're still not sold, see it as an opportunity to be in the same building as J Mascis’ luxurious Wizard hair - setting the tone for a magical show. Sian Parmar
