Generations of Flying Pizza owners come together to celebrate restaurant's birthday and new lease of life

Roundhay’s iconic Flying Pizza restaurant is celebrating an impressive 40 years in the business this month, but it’s showing no signs of slowing down - they’ve introduced a brand new dining terrace, increasing the restaurant’s capacity by almost 100 covers.

Occupying the former car park at the front of the restaurant - notorious for spotting Celebrity’s cars in the restaurant’shey-day - the terrace is decorated in keeping with the recent, lavish refurbishment that brought the former sparkle back to Flying Pizza. A retractable roof will come in handy for al-fresco dining in the Summer, and for the other 51 weeks of the year, a stunning olive tree brings the outdoors inside.

The new terrace was launched earlier in February at a celebration that combined the restaurant’s past and present, bringing together founding owner Adriano Piazzaroli and current San Carlo owner Carlo Distefano.

San Carlo Group’s Celebrity Chef Consigliere, Aldo Zilli joined in the reunion cooking a seafood feast for guests - including a few lucky members of the Confidential team - in an event that showed off the new terrace’s potential as an atmospheric venue for dining with friends and family.

“I’m thrilled to welcome my old friend Adriano back to Flying Pizza, the place he created all those years ago.” said Distefano. “We’ve been friends right back from those early days here, when we lived in Roundhay. In fact, it was Adriano I went to for advice when I wanted to open my first restaurant, he was so helpful and we’ve remained firm friends. It only seemed right that he was here to celebrate 40 years of Flying Pizza with us”
