Every boy and every girl, light up your life
Yes, it’s early, but as the famous quote goes: proper preparation prevents poor performance. Grab your diaries, flick through to December and drop this one in. There’s a light show coming to Roundhay Park and come six months from now, you’re going to want in.
We are thrilled to launch a unique new Christmas Lights Trail at this iconic castle
Bringing glowing festivities and distinctive light installations from an array of international artists, with installations choreographed and sound tracked to what can only be described as Christmas bangers, we can already hear the sleigh bells in the background. Can you? (Just us?)
Turn on the bright lights
Tickets are now on sale for the light trail which will run from Thursday 8 December to Sunday 1 January at Roundhay Park. The family-friendly event will give visitors the opportunity to see the iconic park in a different light. Needless to say, it’s going to be lit.
Watt else is in store we hear you ask? Installations will include a dramatic fire garden, wild wicker sculptures and magical light creations draped across the park’s forest surrounds, with a jaunt along the trail soundtracked by everyone’s favourite festive hits.
Matthew Findlay, Head of UK Trails for Sony Music/Raymond Gubbay Ltd, said:
“We are thrilled to launch a unique new Christmas Lights Trail at this iconic castle, our planning and preparation is well underway. There will be plenty to wow and surprise all visitors, young and old!”
All of the lights
Of course, by then it’ll be cold and you’ll want scran and a warm drink. Fear not. A host of independent street food vendors will be on hand with tasty festive treats and the all-important hot chocolates, spiced winter concoctions and an artisan marshmallow stall. We can almost smell it.
The trail is a joint collaboration between Sony Music and creative project and production company Culture Creative with similar trails at unique sites across the UK, US, Europe and Australia, each designed to showcase the specific environment of the individual location.
Christmas at Roundhay Park runs 8 December - 1 January (Open from 4.30, last entry 8pm) Tickets are now available online.
