The Alma: regional and seasonal food with a view

ENJOYING a stunning setting up on the beautiful moorlands bordering Lancashire and Yorkshire, you can expect food as well as rooms with a view at traditional country pub the Alma Inn, at Laneshawbridge near Wycoller. The seasonal menu makes the most of the best local and regional ingredients available fresh from market that morning and sourced direct from local farmers and producers.

Think Lancashire beef and Goosnargh chicken from the nearby Ribble Valley, plus three Sunday roasts every week: beef sirloin, belly pork with crispy crackling and slow-cooked lamb, all served with roast and mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding and lots of gravy. 

Indulgent dishes and classic pub grub are perfect after a stroll on the moors – there’s a choice of pies, including minced steak and onion in short crust pastry served with mushy peas, braised red cabbage, chips and gravy, or firm favourites, like haddock and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. Another traditional favourite is Lancashire cheese and onion pie, served with mash and vegetables, and half portions are available for children.

Using locally produced and sourced food but drawing inspiration from contemporary global flavours, the menu also includes Asian-style crispy chilli beef with crunchy veggies, egg-fried rice and chilli cashews, and satay king prawn skewer with Singapore fried rice and peanut and lime dressing. 

Food is served every day from noon until 9pm, with breakfast available from 7am until 10am Monday to Friday and until 10.30am at the weekends.
