Friends of Ham spin-off announces closure less than a year in
SAD to hear that Ham & Friends in the Grand Arcade has called it a day after barely a year of existence.
This ambitious spin-off from acclaimed bar Friends of Ham said goodbye through Facebook:
"It's with a heavy heart that we have to say we are now permanently closed. We gave it our best shot over the last year and would like to thank everyone who came to pay us a visit and gave us such nice feedback.
The writing looked on the wall when we dropped in recently...
“We've loved being able to bring natural wine to the people of Leeds and hopefully we've helped ignite a passion in a few of those.
"Massive thanks to Team Ham & Friends for all their efforts and in particular for picking up the Oliver Award for Best City Centre Restaurant on Monday. At least we went out on a high..."
The writing looked on the wall when we dropped in recently to buy a wedge of Ogleshield to discover that the specialist cheese room from George and Joseph of Chapel Allerton was now shut. This was an integral part (along with the Yorkshire Wine School upstairs) of this smart Scandi-influenced deli/eaterie in what was once a notorious night club off Merrion Street.
Yorkshire Wine School is unaffected and continues to run from their room on the 2nd floor. Access is via the entrance in the Grand Arcade. The Friends of Ham bars on New Station Road and up in Ilkley on Wells Road will remain open.
