INDEPENDENT theatre collective Slung Low have announced that they’re creating a free art hostel at their Holbeck headquarters.
The move will encourage a more inclusive theatre experience, while showcasing local talent to a larger audience
Located under the Holbeck railway arches, 'The HUB' (Holbeck Underground Ballroom) is an Arts Council-funded project currently serving as a rehearsal and performance space for Slung Low and other local or visiting theatre companies.
The hostel facilities will be provided free of charge to artists visiting the HUB or other local venues, with plans to allow bloggers and critics the opportunity to stay there when visiting to review shows, as well as longer-term stays for theatre companies developing productions at the HUB.
By giving people outside of the local area opportunity to come and witness the, in Slung Low’s own words: 'unlikely, ambitious, and original adventures', they will encourage a more inclusive theatre experience while showcasing local talent to a larger audience.
Slung Low plan on opening the hostel in August 2016, with facilities for seven guests initially, and an ambition to provide more in the future.
