The new Box bar will feature Leeds' first Budvar beer tank
Leeds-based bar group Arc Inspirations are known for their big, bold bars. The company behind Manahatta, the Pit and Banyan started life in Headingley in 2000 with the Arc (now the group’s third Manahatta), with the Box following soon after. Now, the Box is getting a sister and it’s right in the city centre, on Infirmary Street... an apt place to nurse a drink or two.
The Box Leeds replaces 53 Degrees North and will be spread across two floors, offering food, drink, live sports and a variety of games. Amongst the activities that the £1.4 million makeover has afforded, are shuffleboard and an electronic dart board, with HD TVs throughout, ensuring that you get your dose of the footy no matter where you’ve perched yourself for the afternoon.
On the food and drink side, The Box Leeds will serve Budvar tank beer – a first for Leeds – and a range of beers, ciders and cocktails, all on tap (yes, including the cocktails). You can also expect a pizza-centric food vibe, with an imported pizza oven and a range of meat-based treats, sourced from Lishman’s in Ilkley. If you’re too busy to eat in, The Box Leeds are also launching a “grab ‘n' go” concept, taking pre-orders for collection during weekdays.
On Thursdays, the upstairs bar will open later, playing host to live DJs and an Après ski band. And if you’re interested in events (and who isn't?) there will be a large private bar in the basement, available for bookings.
The best news about all this is that we don’t have to wait long to give it all a try – The Box Leeds will open its doors to drinkers, diners, party animals and sports fans on Tuesday 18th September at midday.
