Now that the supermarkets have finally stopped selling fireworks (may neighbourhood pets rejoice), there’s no excuse not to hand things over to the professionals. One of the bigger of many Leeds’ displays, Roundhay Park’s tribute to Bonfire Night will include all the usual Yorkshire traditions of parkin, food stalls and yes, a ruddy massive fire. As always, get there early to secure the best vantage point.

The 33rd edition of Leeds International Film Festival is possibly its most eclectic yet, with over 300 screenings and events across the 16 days. Dip in and out at your leisure, or clear your schedule and invest in a LIFF pass - £50 initial outlay then reduced £3 tickets to all events. Our top tips include Rocks (an ode to British sisterhood, created by a 75% female cast and crew) and The Lighthouse (Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson stuck on an island), but take your pick - everything from anime to horror is well represented here.

Flex those crafty fingers for a good cause - in conjunction with Thought Bubble Comic Con, MAP Charity and local art collective Schwein & Bad Ornament, Outlaws Yacht Club present an evening of illustration, with a silent charity auction. Established creatives can donate work before the event, or pop down on the night to try your hand at some drawing, with plenty of prizes up for grabs. A hub of Leeds creative scene, this event offers a great opportunity to network for those much-coveted freelance gigs, or simply practice a little bit of self-care through creativity.

No we’re not sure where the year went either, but it is indeed time for the annual Leeds Light Switch On. The official opening event of the ‘Make It Leeds’ christmas campaign, this family-friendly event is set to involve plenty of on-stage merriment courtesy of Radio Aire, the return of Leeds wheel of light and a distinct possibility of a guest appearance from a local legend - or at very least, someone off Celebrity X Factor. Nip into Foley’s Tap House afterwards for a hot cider, and let the joy of Christmas cascade through your veins.

Have you been naughty or nice this year? Yuletidephile’s rejoice - she’s back, and with all the classic features you’ve come to know and love. For those who aren’t initiated, your ticklist is thus - secure a Bavarian cheese-stuffed wiener sausage in a massive roll, wash it down with a commemorative mug of mulled wine, and proceed to skip joyfully around stalls of traditional festive fodder complete with live performances, fairground rides and adorable wooden chalets. You can’t fight the festive when it takes over your soul, but if you’d like to avoid the busiest crowds, opt for an mid-week evening visit.

Should all this festive spirit not be quite your vibe, a good old-fashioned smackdown might just do the trick. The whole world fell in love with Freddie Mercury all over again thanks to 2018’s Hollywood hit Bohemian Rhapsody, so there’s never been a better time to see the Queen story played out onstage. A staple of the West End, We Will Rock You uses 24 of Queen’s biggest hits to tell the story of the Bohemians, a rebel group looking to restore free thought and rock music to a world where everybody thinks the same.
