Some of the bakes will take direct inspiration from the Elite Bistro restaurants

From the team at Elite Bistros, Usher’s Bakehouse is set to open on Liverpool’s Bridgewater Street this August.

Brand owner Gary Usher comes from a long history of bakers. His Grandfather, Gordon Usher, opened the original Usher’s Bakehouse in St Albans, back in 1968. Gary’s father then took the reins and left school to take over the bakery, expanding to three sites, before the family sadly sold the business when Gordon’s health declined.

In 2024, Gary sought to revive the family name and opened Usher’s Bakehouse in Hoole, Chester. In May 2025, a crowdfunding campaign successfully raised £50,000, which was used to invest in new bread deck ovens, laying the foundations to the wholesale arm of the business.

From Wednesday 20 August, the team will be bringing the baked goods that have taken Chester by storm, such as their focaccia, sourdough and rye, to the city centre.

To celebrate the launch, the first 25 customers on each day of the first week will receive a free signature crème brûlée doughnut.

Opening the Bakehouse in Liverpool will prove a central role in starting this exciting new chapter, as Gary says “Were super excited to be expanding the bakery.  We’ve built something really special in Chester and we can’t wait to bring it to more people.”

Usher’s Bakehouse will open Wednesday to Sunday, from 8am to 3pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on weekends.
