We have a gander at the progress of the exclusive members-only area, set to open in spring

Last year, AO Arena announced they’d be opening a members-only bar and dining area, designed to kickstart your evening at the venue in style. As of today, the developments of The Mezz are well underway with an expected opening date of 2nd March, for all you Rick Astley fans out there.

The exclusive area comes as part of a £50m redevelopment of the venue and will see a previously unused part of the arena being turned into a ‘members-only level’ with “impeccable service timed to perfection”. There’ll be no wolfing down your main in fear of missing the first act - instead, The Mezz offers a relaxed and enjoyable way to ease into your evening.

The VIP experience starts from the moment you arrive, with early access to the venue and a private entrance allowing direct access to the bowl (and back, should you need a restroom break).

The vision for the space is starting to take shape, with the main fixtures like bars, kitchens and toilets already firmly in place. Every little detail has been scrupulously thought out, from the swift customer journey to their premium seats to sound-proof panelling and the acoustic-enhancing layout.

See the space taking shape below.

There’ll even be a panoramic view of the stage direct from The Mezz, should you decide to lounge in luxury and enjoy an extra cocktail (or three - we wouldn’t blame you considering the breadth of the menu).  As for food, you can expect dishes like 35-day aged Hereford rib-eye and beef dripping chips, as well as vegetarian and vegan options, of course.

Despite the unfinished areas, tools and machinery, and the fact there’s currently more hi-vis than high heels in sight, you can almost feel the buzzing atmosphere that will fill the space in just a few months' time.

After shows, members are encouraged to hang around for after-event drinks and performances from live DJs to keep the party going.

Also taking shape is the AO Electric Lounge, complete with a dedicated VIP entrance for friends and family of the artists. Alongside it will be the Heineken Sky Lounge providing ‘iconic views over Manchester’s skyline’ and The Beautiful North; an ‘exclusive premium super suite’ which can host up to 34 guests at a time - swanky.
