Now the Full English served by Smithdown Road's Tavern Co, has just been voted the best breakfast in the country.
The Mexican barbecue and student favourite, just yards Penny Lane, beat hundreds of venues across the UK, amassing nearly 10pc of all votes to take the top prize.
Well banger me! you are saying.
Owner Keith Gurney, said: “We are overjoyed at winning this award. We know we make a fantastic breakfast as we cook around 2,000 breakfasts each week, 600 of which are full English breakfasts. It is humbling to know that our customers have taken the time to vote for us.”

The Tavern Co’s Full English comprises traditional handmade Lincolnshire sausages, thick cut back bacon, a fried egg, peppered tomato, Bury black pudding, sautéed mushrooms and baked beans together with extra thick sliced toast made with locally baked bread.
TV chef Dean Edwards visited the restaurant to present their award. He said: “The awards highlighted the range of breakfasts available when eating out and I’m delighted to be able to present Tavern Co with the Best Breakfast Award. Having tasted their award-winning dish for myself I can see why Tavern Co’s breakfast has such backing from their fans. They can count me as a fan now too."
The Best Breakfast competition was open to food venues of all types across the country with category options of hot, cold and most innovative breakfast.
Karen Levy, of award organisers HGCA, said: “We would like to congratulate the Tavern Co for their fabulous breakfast. We had thousands of votes for the hundreds of dishes that were entered into the awards as customers showed their support for their local venue. These awards set out to show the choice of breakfast available at all types of venues from cafes and farm shops to restaurants and hotels and the Tavern Co have proved a worthy winner.”
Tavern CoTavern Co was also awarded the Best Hot Breakfast. Other winners included Tried & True cafe in Putney, London,which won Most Innovative Breakfast for their BBQ Pulled Pork Benedict. Café Alf Resco in Dartmouth, Devon won Best Cold Breakfast for their Alf’s Granola.
Farmhouse Breakfast Week, runs until Saturday and is a national campaign organised on behalf of UK cereal farmers and producers.
