New Albert Dock site will be the group’s very first restaurant outside London
Rosa’s Thai Café, the popular group of London restaurants founded by Thai chef Saiphin Moore, is gearing up to open its doors in Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock development on 25th February. The new Liverpool site is the group’s very first restaurant outside London, and to celebrate, diners will be treated to a soft launch offer of 50% off all food on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th February (bookings only, and subject to availability).
Housed within a Grade I listed former warehouse, the new Rosa’s Liverpool restaurant is split over two floors to host up to 88 covers. The interior retains the original open brickwork of the building, with huge arches looking out onto the docks, an open theatre kitchen and a mezzanine level for hosting events, birthday parties and private dining.
“We can’t wait to open our doors in Liverpool and are so excited to become part of the city’s thriving food scene,” Saiphin commented ahead of the launch. “I’m already working on some Liverpool specials to launch later in the year.
“As one of the first cities to open up trade links with Asia, we couldn’t think of a better place than Liverpool to open our first restaurant outside of London - especially in a location with such enviable views across the historic Royal Albert Docks.”
Saiphin grew up on a mountain farm in Khao Kho, northern Thailand, where food was always an integral part of family life. When she was twenty, she moved to Hong Kong to start work as a nanny where she befriended the market traders of Kowloon City and a local grocer ended up asking her to open an in-store noodle shop.
Such was its success, Saiphin spent the next two years fitting catering jobs around her nanny duties, often be cooking from six in the morning until nine o’clock at night. In 2001, she met future husband and business partner Alex – who was running a digital marketing business at the time. The couple moved to London in 2006 and opened a market stall on Brick Lane. Only two years later, Saiphin and Alex found a nearby site for their permanent restaurant and so Rosa’s Thai Café was born.
There are now fifteen Rosa’s Thai Cafés across London, and Saiphin can still be found cooking in the kitchens. She also continues to maintain personal relationships with the farmers in Thailand who supply Rosa’s and is continually searching for new ingredients to incorporate into the menu.
Rosa’s Thai Cafés are renowned for punchy Thai food inspired by Saiphin’s family recipes, made using the best authentic Thai ingredients alongside locally sourced British produce.
Guests at the new Liverpool restaurant can expect fragrant favourites such as ‘salmon red curry’, ‘stir-fried aubergine with chilli and basil’, and Rosa’s signature ‘Pad Thai’. There’s also a small selection of traditional sweets such as ‘mango and sticky rice’ and ‘coconut cream ice cream’.
