Award-winning baking school launches Christmas class in South Liverpool

ON your marks, get set… BAKE! [Spoiler alert] We were gutted to see Lizzie Acker go home on last week’s episode of The Great British Bake Off. The 28-year-old from Liverpool was the eighth baker to leave the tent in the quarter-finals as the bakers explored alternative ingredients in "Free-From" week.

Noel had to deliver the bad news, but Lizzie was rightly proud of herself. On the show, Lizzie said, “I am really happy I am a quarter finalist and I sound dead Scouse now because I am crying. It’s such an amazing experience to have met the people that I have met and learned everything. I am proud and these are happy tears. I can’t wait to go and walk my dog to be honest!”

If you’ve been inspired by Lizzie’s baking skills, the good news is that a new programme of bread baking classes are happening in Liverpool next month.

Award-winning bread bakers, Room Forty, are offering a Christmas class where you can learn to bake mini stollen and cantuccini di natale (Christmas biscotti) which both make great gifts to share over the festive period. Or just eat them all yourself, we won’t judge.

The Christmas class will be at Mossley Hill Church’s Hilltop Centre on Wednesday 15 December.

Other classes set to be announced for the New Year will include bread baking for beginners, Italian breads, cinnamon buns and breakfast breads, and iced buns and tiger bread.

Room Forty won a Silver Award at the World Bread Awards held in London in 2017 for their bread baking excellence. Earlier this year, Room Forty was declared Mobile Baking School of the Year at the Manchester and North West Prestige Awards and was declared Best Baking Workshop Provider at the Northern Enterprise Awards 2019.

The Room Forty baking school was established in 2016 and has taught over 500 people to bake. Classes are run at venues across Warrington, St Helens and Liverpool.

"We are so very excited to be back in Liverpool for Christmas,” says Jen Perry, proprietor of Room Forty.

“Our classes in Mossley Hill are always a hoot. Stollen was a special Christmas request from the last Liverpool classes in September and so we expect it to be a sell out.”

Classes cost from £65 and the fee includes the cost of all ingredients, samples of bread and nibbles to eat and copious quantities of tea and coffee. Class participants also leave with recipes and the breads that they bake.

No stodgy cakes, soggy bottoms or limp wrists here. This is everyone’s time to be a star baker.
