A 20-year-old man from Ormskirk has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving and drug driving after a man was killed in a collision with vehicle near the waterfront.
The incident happened at around 10.40 am today (Tuesday) on the busy city centre bound carriageway of The Strand, just before the Liver Buildings, opposite the Crowne Plaza hotel.
Police earlier said the driver of the car had stopped at the scene and was co-operating fully with the police.
The Strand is currenly closed city bound from the junction of Leeds Street as collision investigators establish what has happened and to locate and provide support to the next of kin of the pedestrian.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
