Starter and main course for £12
When
12-7pm, every day from Wednesday November 25 until January 7
There is nothing more romantic or more synonymous with Christmas than Manhattan. The ice rink in Central Park, Macy’s tree, Phil Spector, Shane McGowan’s teeth chattering in the snow.
Unfortunately, the Fairytale of New York is something most of us will only experience in the aisles of the Bootle Asda, over and over and over again.
But wait. The people at NYL, the self styled New York restaurant within Aloft Hotel, are planning to sprinkle a little bit of festive charm, yankee doodly style, and are going big on their first ever Christmas.
They are they opening their splendid surroundings up on December 25 with Northern Irish award winning head chef Rob Scott in charge - and because they aren’t quite on the radar yet, still have availability (£89 a head for seven courses, £30 if you are 12 or under). Turkey and all the trimmings plus much more.
But before that, and to get shoppers and workers in the festive mood, they have cut the price of their two course fixed menu from £15 to £12 from this week until way into the January sales.
They have also extended the offer from 5pm to 7pm meaning the after work brigade can get a snout in the trough too.
What’s cooking?
Fish and chips, Brooklyn meatball sub, a Christmas Club turkey sandwich, at least three vegetarian pastas, tuna steaks, jerk chicken, mussels and more from the mains. Soups, salads, pate, duck and smoked salmon to begin.
What’’s not cooking?
Steaks. Not in this deal, my friend.
Christmas tips?
Many of you will, quite rightly. make a beeline for the NYL Burger, a vast meaty creature consisting of two fat, juicy patties of beef constructed in house, with bacon, homemade relish and salad. It comes with excellent, very excellent, triple fried chips, and you know we know about these things.
Confidential tried the burger a couple of weeks ago, washed down with a Brooklyn beer or two and didn’t move for about two days. Lightweights? Not after that.
Desserts?
They are not included in the offer. But see above. Absolutely no worries whatsoever.
Are you sure? Yes, we’re sure.
Other reasons to go?
It's the former Royal Insurance Building which lay derelict for 30 years and its Grade II design is something to get quite impressed about.
If you really can't move after that, you can get a room.
No, not like that.
Oh go on, it is Christmas.
