We check out the latest (and largest) entertainment complex to arrive in the city
Last week saw the official opening of Gravity MAX, the brand-new £10 million entertainment centre at Liverpool One.
The gaming complex has taken over the old Debenhams site and spans a whopping 100,000 square feet over two floors, bringing a dynamic mix of competitive socialising and immersive entertainment to visitors and residents of Liverpool.
On the ground floor you’ll find AR bowling with the option to add a trail of fire or your own selfie to display on the bowling lane. There’s also digital batting cages, Hologate VR, shuffleboards and a computer gaming corner as well as a huge arcade with £1 million worth of modern and retro consoles, grabbers, dance machines and the likes. Not forgetting the rather impressive, well-stocked Coca Cola slushy machine and adjoining drinks fountain with over 100 different flavours to choose from.
Down here you’ll also find the entrance to what is probably the crown jewel of this place; the E-Karting track. Its laps wind through the venue covering both floors, giving you and your friends and family the opportunity to speed your way through exhilarating downhills into banked corners and leave everyone else in the dust.
Head up to the second floor using the escalator or lift and you’ll be greeted by live entertainment from bands, singers and drag acts, set to perform every evening of the week. Opposite the stage is the food hall, sporting menus from popular chains and independents including Wendy’s 800 Degrees Pizza, Coco di Mama, The Athenian and Creams. Guests can order food using the QR code on their table. Once it’s ready, it can be collected from one of the futuristic-looking hot food boxes that are accessed like Amazon lockers.
There are four bars across the venue; two Gravity Social bars, the Eden cocktail bar and a large Terrace where guests can enjoy a drink on the roof. There’s self-service beer taps and a retractable roof that can quickly be recovered when typical British weather decides to make an appearance.
As for things to do on the top floor, there’s no shortage; AR darts, pool and snooker, a series of Immersive Gamebox rooms and two courses of Urban Street Golf - one of which even pays homage to the city with references to Liverpool such as the lambananas.
There’s no admission fee at Gravity MAX. Simply walk in and book onto the next available slot of whatever you want to play. You only pay for the activities you use and the food and drink you consume. If you’re visiting at peak times such as evenings and weekends, we recommend booking ahead where possible.
