Luxury Chinese restaurant includes a food lab, a glass wine room and a hidden private dining room

After a six-month refurbishment of the former Cains Brewery, new Chinese restaurant Lu Ban finally opened its doors on Friday November 1. Lu Ban specialises in regional cooking techniques and flavours, with authentic recipes inspired by the Tianjin region, home of famous Tianjin School of Cuisine.

Diners get to experience the noise, and buzz of the kitchen – before feasting on food made in front of them

The semi-derelict brewery building has undergone a total transformation to include antique Oriental furniture from the region of Tianjin, blended with luxurious contemporary design in a range of dining spaces.

Giant decorative copper pan lids create a warm lighting effect in the main restaurant, which has been strategically positioned around an impressive open kitchen, offering great views of the chefs showing off their culinary skills.

An impressive six-metre-long bespoke bar with seating for up to 30 guests, provides a cool spot to dive into a number of Asian inspired bar snacks washed down with a glass of fizz or a creative cocktail.

A range of private dining spaces includes a food lab, dedicated wine room, an intimate chef’s table as well as a discreet and exclusive Tianjin Dining Room.

The food lab experience is informal and designed for a party of up to a dozen guests, who can choose their ingredients and influence the evening's menu.

The Chef’s Table has been designed for a more intimate gathering. With just six places, this is an opportunity to be in the ‘inner sanctum’ of a working kitchen. Diners get to experience the noise, and buzz of the kitchen – before feasting on food made in front of them, complemented by matching wines from around the world.

The Wine Room has floor-to-ceiling glass shelving and is where a collection of wines from some of the world's best winemakers is stored.  Wines can be perfectly paired with dishes from a unique banquet menu or selection of small plates, which can be perfectly paired with a superb selection of wines.

To celebrate the opening the team are offering a complimentary bottle of Prosecco with all bookings in November. (Terms and conditions apply.)
