LIVERPOOL gets its first drive-in cinema next week, opposite the Costco.
Route 66, which opened Europe's first outdoor digital cinema two years ago at Trafford Park, has confirmed that it will raising the curtain an even bigger outdoor cinema here on Friday April 4.
And just for a change, the action is not on the south docks: the big patch of land owned by Peel Holdings, at Clarence Dock, on the north of the Pier Head, is the venue.
There will be room for 200 cars paying a flat ticket price of £20 per vehicle with punters enjoying everything from popcorn to pizza deliveries as the windows steam up.
Lee Seddon, of Route 66, said: ““We’re really looking forward to seeing the reaction of Liverpool residents to having one of the biggest and best outdoor cinemas in the country.
Route66 Screen Low Res“Having seen the huge success of Route 66 in Manchester...we knew that there was the demand for a more exciting way to watch the latest releases than in your typical multiplex.
“People have been driving from Liverpool to Manchester to get the drive-thru cinema experience and now they’ll be able to enjoy the big screen on their own doorstep.”
Route 66 will show mainstream movies on a 20 metre wide screen, and plans special screenings of classics, with showtimes of 6pm, 8pm and 10pm, seven nights a week. It says the digital projector used will provide one of the highest quality outdoor images in the UK.
Ian Pollitt, development investment surveyor at Peel Holdings, owners of the Liverpool Waters site added: “To see the Clarence Dock area animated with many visitors will be a great sight and will provide a flavour of the future we are planning for the whole of Liverpool Waters."
