To whet Liverpool’s appetite before the Bold Street venue opens, they’re putting on a bit of a do
Ahead of its eagerly anticipated Bold Street opening later in the month (more on that here), Honest Burgers kicks off July with a pre-launch pop-up on Saturday 6 July as the Black Lodge x Honest Burgers Street Party rolls into town from noon until late.
The pop-up will give you the chance to try a sample of Honest Burgers’ menu, including their equally famous homemade rosemary-salted chips
Parking up their Field Kitchen van outside the Baltic Triangle-based brewery taproom, Honest Burgers will be bringing their homemade burgers to Liverpool for the first time, giving us a taste of what to expect – and what London, Bristol, Reading, Brighton, Cambridge and Manchester have already been privy to.
They go to great length to workin collaboration with small local indie breweries wherever they open and in Liverpool’s case, that means a partnership with Black Lodge Brewing. Called Bold Street Pale, the sessionable classic American-style hopped pale ale has tropical grapefruit flavours – perfect for a summer’s afternoon.
“We’re always keen to collaborate with local people and Black Lodge make awesome beer so it was a no-brainer,” says Tom Barton, co-founder of Honest Burgers alongside his friend Philip Eeles. “We’re bringing the burgers and gin and they’re bringing the brews. It should be a great day.”
Gin, you say? That’s Honest’s house London dry gin, the recipe of which has been inspired by ingredients found in their kitchens. Honest Burgers has grown from street food operation at busy markets, via a tiny single restaurant in Brixton Market, into a pretty decent small chain. Honest Burgers make their Great British patties from scratch in their own butchery, from well sourced grass fed beef, chopping rather than mincing British chuck steak and rib cap to retain flavour and texture.
The pop-up will give Liverpool the chance to try a sample of Honest Burgers’ menu, including the signature Honest (beef served pink with smoked bacon, cheddar, red onion relish and homemade pickles), US-inspired Tribute and vegan Plant burgers, alongside their equally famous homemade rosemary-salted chips plus chipotle mayo and bacon gravy. All burgers are £10 with chips, and entry to the party is free, with taproom beer prices all day along to tunes from the Black Lodge DJs. What’s more, 100 pints of the new Bold Street Pale ale are up for grabs – the first 50 pints free on opening and another 50 free at 5pm.
“Expect boss scran,” says Black Lodge operations director Robbi Etherington,“and the usual Black Lodge vibes during our street party. We are also super keen for everyone to try the first iteration of Bold Street Pale, our collaboration brew with the mates.”
