A 49-year-old pedestrian who was in a collision with a Hackney cab in Liverpool in the early hours of this morning, has died in hospital.

He has been identified by his next of kin as 49-year-old John McShane from Liverpool.

The 33-year-old driver of the vehicle, arrested on suspicion of drug driving, was bailed earlier in the morning pending further enquiries.

Road traffic collision investigators are continuing with their investigation into the incident.

They are particularly keen to speak to the driver of a vehicle who may have seen the pedestrian shortly prior to the collision with the black Hackney taxi.

This particular vehicle travelled along St Anne Street in the direction of Liverpool at 4.44am.

Police and paramedics attended the scene and found Mr McShane suffering with head and chest injuries.

Both sides of the busy St Anne Street, in Everton, were closed for several hours after the incident.
