175-seater burger joint to open on Liverpool One terrace

FAST food joint Five Guys is to open a flagship restaurant at Liverpool One this summer.

The 175 seater restaurant is due to open on the so-called Terrace, moving into the unit which, for the past nine years, has been home to Cafe Rouge.

The news came quickly after it was revealed that the faux French restaurant will close its doors in Liverpool this weekend, with Five Guys saying the move was "a long held ambition" for the American brand which charges just under £12 for a burger and fries.

Five Guys, which first opened up shop in Liverpool last year, in Queen Square, was lastwill join a range of big restaurant chains when it steps up to the terrace, including Wagamama, Pizza Express, and Gourmet Burger Kitchen - which might not be exactly dancing with glee at the news.

Nevertheless, Chris Bliss, estate director at Liverpool ONE, said: “We are delighted to see them choose Liverpool One as their new home."

Neville Mailing, of Five Guys, added: “Securing a location on the Terrace at Liverpool One fulfills a long-held ambition for Five Guys.  We are in a prime location in one of the UK’s prime cities.”

The last 12 months have seen a flurry of restaurant openings in Liverpool One including Cosy Club, Yard & Coop and Busaba.

Alas, as our love of eating out grows, so our love of eating in seemingly does not, with kitchen utensil store Lakeland disappearing off the Liverpool One map this week.

Meanwhile, if the demise of Cafe Rouge bothers you, the nearest one can be found 11 miles away - at cheap n cheerful Cheshire Oaks.
