Current crisis means more restaurant and bar workers than ever are facing hardship
Coronavirus has dealt the hospitality industry an incredibly hard blow. Day by day, front of house staff, chefs, KPs, sommeliers and a whole support network are being laid off by coronavirus as restaurants, bars and hotels reduce their costs or close altogether. The latest government advice, discouraging the public from visiting hospitality outlets, has triggered an unprecedented crisis and put many thousands of livelihoods at immediate risk.

Hospitality Action, which was set up in 1837 to offer vital support for those who work in the industry, has now launched an emergency appeal to support hospitality workers impacted by widespread closures and job losses due to the Coronavirus.
“We urgently need to build a significant fund to enable us to make one-off awards to eligible workers suddenly facing hardship” says Mark Lewis, CEO Hospitality Action. “To be effective in meeting the anticipated demand, we need to secure funds before we can open the scheme for grant applicants. We won’t be able to help everybody who applies, but with your support we will reach as many people as the fund allows.”
They are aiming to launch the fund for applications within 48 hours.

Hospitality Action offers a whole range of support services to help hospitality people back on their feet again after a setback. Each they help thousands of people through challenging times by offering mental health support services, skills training and advice regarding how to apply for grant.
Every year they host a number of charitable dinners and special events to raise funds for the industry and are supported by a whole host of chefs including Adam Reid, Head Chef at The French in Manchester's Midland Hotel, Paul Askew from Liverpool's The Art School and the charity’s principal patron Jason Atherton.
