From stacked and packed to cute buns - the best burger stops in the city centre
We like big buns and we cannot lie. Give us beef, steak or chicken. In fact, make it a double with bacon, cheese and onion rings. And a beer, obviously. We’ve handpicked some of Liverpool’s most popular burger stops between two imaginary buns to bring you our lowdown on some of the best you can get your chops around in the city centre.

Fat Hippo
Good food, messy fingers, juicy burgers. If that tagline doesn’t grab you, I don’t know what will. Fat Hippo is best known for its burgers, with quirky flavours like the PB&J (a beef burger topped with peanut butter and bacon jam), alongside the classics. Try the Born Slippy: a meaty treat with a double beef patty, layered with American cheese, garlic mayo, tender braised rib meat, topped with fresh jalapeños and chilli jam for that little kick. You’re gonna need an extra napkin (or four).
What’s Cooking
Boasting a bountiful menu of handcrafted burgers, all made from scratch in sesame seeded buns, What’s Cooking offers a choice of 10 different burgers, including the Scooby Snack featuring a triple patty and triple bacon, the Veggie Billy Boy for those who fancy a meatless meal and The Yankee Burger with a slice of pineapple for a tropical taste.
24 Britannia Pavilion Royal Albert Dock, Liverpool L3 4AD
Red Dog Saloon
The American dream is alive and well on Bold Street. You’ll find traditional cheeseburgers, Beyond Meat burgers and options that read like a challenge but will have you drooling at the chops all at the same time. Take the Devastator Burger; three 30-day dry-aged chick steak patties with marrow butter glaze, applewood smoked bacon, "melty melty" cheese, chopped BBQ pork, roasted garlic mayo and fresh-cut vidalia onion. Wear your comfy pants for this one.
Revolution Albert Dock
With more than 10 different burgers to choose from, as well as vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options, there’s something to satisfy every craving and appetite - from beloved classics like beef and fried chicken to more specialist flavours like Mac n Cheese and Korean BBQ Pork. And then there's that waterside view - come for burgers, stay for the cocktails.

Almost Famous
The new wave of burgers started here - OTT, in your face and, most importantly, absolutely top notch. Believe the hype. These burgers are memorable and meaty, made from Aubrey Allen beef. When you combine this quality with dreamy sauces and wondertricks it really is the stuff of burger fantasies. On the menu you’ll find genre-bending burgers like the River Phoenix topped with frazzles, the Triple Nom with BBQ rib meat, and "Blame it on the whiskey" with waffle fries and BBQ pork. You’ll be left with sauce all over your chin and one big, happy smile.

Honest Burgers
There must be something in the water on Bold Street because three of our top burgers are here. Doing exactly what it says on the tin, Honest Burgers serves burgers and only burgers. The Liverpool Burger is a local special developed in collaboration with Hafla Hafla. Us Scousers are obsessed with all things salt and pepper so the Liverpool Burger comes topped with stir-fried veggies, an unlikely but welcome addition to the grilled halloumi, spring onions and Sriracha mayo. The bossest of all boss burgers? Don’t knock it ‘til you try it.
Pattersons
It used to be that you got your fried chicken fix after a night out. Pattersons didn’t want to wait that long, so they put the two together in one bar: chicken and tunes. And cocktails. And beers. Come for fried chicken or our favourite American diner eats: hot dawgs, loaded fries, beef patty burgers, all the sauces. End on apple pie, a sundae, or cookie dough. Then slide into the cocktails. Cock a doodle do.
28 Gradwell St, Liverpool L1 4JH
Miller and Carter
The poshest restaurant on our list but still reasonably priced. For those wanting something special, opt for Miller’s Dirty Burger made with 30-day aged prime beef and tender sliced fillet tails cooked to your liking. With each of their burgers served in a glazed brioche-style bun with lettuce, tomato, and your choice of seasoned fries or a side salad, a Miller and Carter meal is one to remember.

Love Lane Brewery
Love Lane might be most famous for its beer but they’ve also got a cracking food menu. Come along for small plates, big plates and even bigger flavours as well as Love Lane beers, Higson’s beers and Ginsmiths gins – all made metres away from where you’re sitting. There are four different burgers - steak, pulled pork, chicken breast and vegan - and three types of hot dog. (Maybe not all in one evening, though).
62-64 Bridgewater St, Baltic Triangle, Liverpool L1 0AY
Free State Kitchen
If the sunshine is cracking the flags when you read this, grab the opportunity to discover Liverpool’s best kept al fresco secret. FSK serves up a modern twist on American classics with locally sourced produce at the heart of its menu. Boasting lip-smackers like the American classic, double deluxe and double French onion burger, the only problem you’ll have here is deciding what to order.

City Wine Bar & Kitchen
In vino we trust. Everyone knows that a burger and a beer are a match made in heaven. But burgers and wine? Why not! For those serious about burgers (and wine) get yourselves down to City Wine Bar & Kitchen. Their menu can’t be tied down to one particular cuisine or country, they just make the food they love with the best ingredients they can find. Try the Buffalo Burger - buffalo sauce coated crispy buttermilk chicken thigh with blue cheese sauce. They do three gluten-free burgers too, including a classic cheeseburger with fries.
21 Old Hall St, Liverpool L3 9BS
Peaberry Coffee House & Kitchen
Start off your day the right way with a trip to Peaberry Coffee House and Kitchen for the ultimate breakfast dish. Made using 50/50 beef and pork mince patties topped with crispy bacon, sliced cheddar, a fried egg and hash browns stacked between two sesame brioche buns - who says you can’t have burgers before 12pm?

Locked & Loaded
Burgers are big biz in the Baltic and there are loads to choose from in the party zone around Cains Brewery. But, let us draw your attention to Locked & Loaded Street Food - these guys are boshing up some of the best burgers in town for both Birdies Bar and Golf Fang. And they're not afraid to experiment with flavours and combos; from the Rising Sun burger with teriyaki coated crispy chicken, to the Truffle Shuffle beef patty with double cheese, bacon, crispy onions and garlic and truffle mayo. Stacked and saucy BBQ street food at its best.
