Bean Coffee teamed up with the children's charity for 'Oli's Blend'

First things first. There's nothing in this article about David Beckham, the World Cup or even football. We just liked the pun and it's for a good cause, so deal with it. Local brew crew Bean Coffee has teamed up with Alder Hey Children’s Charity to bring a Christmassy blend to its customers and raise funds for Liverpool’s iconic hospital.

We hope lots of people get to enjoy it as their first cup on Christmas morning.

Named after Alder Hey’s elephant mascot, "Oli’s Blend" was specially crafted by members of the hospital’s charity department during a recent trip to Bean Coffee’s roastery at Brunswick Business Park. The Alder Hey charity team learnt all about roasting and how to use their tasting and smelling senses to find different flavour notes.

The blend is a mix of Brazil DBarbosa and Ethiopia Chelichele and can be purchased online, in Bean stores around the North West and on the Alder Hey charity shop website. It will cost £8 for 200g, with £5 being donated to support the great work that Alder Hey does.

Jon Whyte, managing director of Bean Coffee, said, "It has been a real privilege to work with Alder Hey Children’s Charity throughout this year, as it is such a great local cause.

"We want to try and raise as much as we can, along with our customers, and a great way for us to do that was to create a special festive blend.

"We had a great afternoon with the team from Alder Hey at our roastery, tasting and choosing the beans to go into the blend.

"We really enjoy the blend the team selected, and we hope lots of people get to enjoy it as their first cup on Christmas morning."

Cath Harding, head of community fundraising for Alder Hey Children's Charity, was part of the team who created the new blend.

“It was fabulous to spend the afternoon with our friends from Bean, learning all about the origins of its coffees and soaking up the team’s enthusiasm and love for their craft," said Cath on the experience.

"I was just delighted to help choose the Alder Hey Christmas blend and can’t wait to taste it over the festive season!"

Bean Coffee Roasters began in 2008 and has been roasting coffee in its Liverpool roastery since 2015. It roasts a range of specialty coffee, including many single origins, and its signature Bean Blend – a number of which have won Great Taste Awards. It now has branches in Liverpool, Manchester and Rochdale.

This will be the second product that Bean has created with Alder Hey, after the Special Edition Brazil DBarbosa launched in March and is still available to buy online and in stores.

For info on Bean Coffee, visit their website or drop into one of their Liverpool stores at Liverpool ONE, Mann Island, St Paul's Square, Princes Dock, Chapel Street, Exchange Station, Brunswick Business Park and Liverpool Innovation Park.
