AN abandoned townhouse in Duke Street is seeing a revival of fortunes as an apartment hotel.
Liverpool-based Epic Apart-Hotel and Serviced Apartments says it has spent £800,000 in transforming 75 Duke Street, which stands on the corner of Tunnage Square.
The building has stood empty since 1984.
According to the Ropewalks Portfolio website, the shop window for people wanting to buy properties in the area, offers over £125,000 were considered for the 7,000sq/ft, four-storey detached Victorian property.
The new project, which will see 17 apartments, doubles the company’s occupancy in the city centre to a total of 35 such units. Epic already has similar ventures on Campbell Street and Seel Street. The Duke Street venture will provide 15 new jobs, says owner Simon Beer who runs Epic with his wife, Fiona.
Also new to Epic’s portfolio, Duke Street will feature a selection of ePods - smaller rooms at 15 sq/mts, “aimed at the budget corporate traveller and weekend couple looking for a spacious, quality, yet affordable place to stay”.
