Children’s menu offerings that are slicker than yo’ average nuggets & chips
7 minute read
Listen, there’s a time and a place for fish fingers and beans or chicken nuggets and chips. They’re comfort food classics that you can get a spike of serotonin from at any age. When they’re as imaginative as a children’s food menu gets, though, it just feels downright lazy.
Just because kids have got tiny tastebuds doesn’t mean their options should be as dull as dishwater. So, here are some of the Liverpool restaurants doing the absolute most for your mini-me, so give the little ankle-biters something more exciting to sink their gnashers into.
Cosy Club
Forget the kid in the candy shop, the kid in Cosy Club is the most spoilt one of all. From brunch served ’til 5pm and a main menu from midday, your dinky diner will have plenty to choose from. Think all-day breakfast plates and pancakes to fresh stir fry or creamy mac ’n’ cheese. All dishes come with a drink to slurp it all down with.
Cosy Club, 37c Paradise Street, Liverpool L1 3EU
Lu Ban
Remember that scene in Matilda where Miss Trunchbull is scoffing a chocolate, saying “much too good for children!”. Well, this is the opposite of that. The lovely lot at Lu Ban have taken some of their most popular Tianjin plates and adapted them for younger diners to enjoy too. The Little Lu Ban set menu (£12pp) includes popcorn chicken or popcorn tofu, straw fries, noodles, rice and greens and an orange lollipop, plus a soft drink of their choice.
Lu Ban, Cains Brewery Village, Stanhope Street, Liverpool L8 5XJ
Lunya
Give your little one a taste of Catalonia with a feast from Lunya’s kids’ meal deal menu. Choose from an array of sophisticated tapas-style small plates, including battered squid, pan-fried chorizo, Catalan rarebit, chickpea stew and a children’s deli platter of cured meats, cheeses, dips and nibbles. Supplementary sweet treats include chocolate churros, Crema Catalana and a selection of ice cream scoops. Top it off with a glass of chocolate milk, horchata or organic fruit juice.
Lunya, 55 Hanover Street, Liverpool L1 3DN
Miller & Carter
The Younger Guests Menu at Miller & Carter is designed to make the authentic steakhouse experience more accessible. With a choice of two courses or three, your young diners can take their pick based on the size of their appetite. This is grown-up grub for fledgling foodies. Starters include crispy calamari and hand-cut nachos; mains include a 30-Day aged 4.5oz rump steak, salmon nourish bowl and grilled chicken breast. If they don’t finish their dessert, we’re sure you’ll have no qualms about clearing the plate.
Miller & Carter, Atlantic Pavilion Albert Dock, Liverpool L3 4AF
Moose Coffee
Welcome to the Moose Coffee kids’ menu where everything is miniature. Mini smashed avo, mini porridge with honey, mini pancake stacks, mini bagels, mini Benedicts - mega cute. They’ve even shrunk down some of the most salivated-over Moose dishes to make them suitable for tiny tummies, including the Mini Mighty (back bacon, chipolata sausage, fried egg and a slice of toast).
