HISTORIC City Centre venue The Leeds Club has announced that it is set to close its doors at the end of this month.
We are not at liberty to disclose who the purchaser is at this stage but we believe that they have the capital resources available to maintain this historic building to the standard that it deserves
Built in 1820, the Grade II-listed building at 3 Albion Place operated as a private members club from 1849 until - having been acquired by 1st Credit investors in 2011 - it became an events venue in 2013 due to low membership, in an attempt to change the loss-making businesses fortunes.
A popular destination for weddings, conferences, and drinks receptions, The Leeds Club has since returned profit for its new owners in the five years since it was acquired, but “high demand and therefore high value of prime city centre commercial property” motivated them to sell- resulting in the redundancy of 12 full-time members of staff.
The identity of the buyers has yet to be disclosed, but it’s thought to have reached a seven-figure fee. It’s believed that they have plans to create over forty full and part-time positions when redevelopment work on the building is complete - considering the cost of the building and its maintenance though, sounds to us like it’s got the makings of a pretty swanky new restaurant...

A final business networking breakfast event is due to take place on Friday 27 January; The Leeds Club will continue to meet all of its financial obligations and commitments up to and beyond the date that the property sale completes.
