A DECADE on from the last live music event at Roundhay Park, it was about time for a revamp. Welcome to the stage OnRoundhay; a one-day celebration of good music and great food.
Max Jury kicked things off to an intimate and excited crowd, followed by an eclectic set from funk-fanatics The Haggis Horns, who you’ll have heard on Mark Ronson’s Versions album, as well as The Jonathan Ross Show.
Critically acclaimed Wolf Alice showed the gathering main stage crowd why they’re one to watch for the future, before Primal Scream gave everybody a dose of 90s nostalgia. James saw out the night with a set chock full of singalong classics, with which the crowd were more than happy to join in.
Beyond the music, the John Lewis food village caused quite a stir, with lines backed-up to the main stage as festival goers queued to get their hands on the likes of Piggie Smalls Hot Dogs and Golden Balls. Star of the day had to be Ox Club, who had set up an elaborate fire-pit to roast whole lambs, while John Lewis hosted the VIPs with a bar stocked to the brim with Fentimans tonics, perfect for whipping up iced and spiced G&Ts.
For those after more of the foodie vibe, pop-ups and cooking classes with Masterchef alumni Liz Cottam (who’s currently taking up residency at The New Ellingdon) had everyone impressed.
The Penguin’s kids corner kept the little ones (and a few big ones) entertained with craft stations, games and areas themed to old childhood favourite like The BFG.
Onto the festival fashion…
We’re so over magazines telling you playsuits and fringing are the ultimate festival must-haves - clearly the people who write those articles have never been in a port-a-loo... The crowds at OnRoundhay seemed to have all got the memo as well, and we were there to spot the best dressed; from chic scenes to carnival queens.
Going for Bold
Florals might have been perfect for Spring festivals, but it’s all about bold prints for Autumn - and these gals are embracing it.
From sixties shifts to monochrome jumpsuits, the standout pieces were paired with toned down accessories to let the prints do their thing. If you’re thinking a little more out of the box, you can always jump into the dressing-up box for and strut your style, loud and proud!
Layer It Up
Do you prefer it on top or underneath? I’m talking about shirts, of course. It’s all about them this season, wherever you prefer wear them.
Layer them over a statement tee or under a strappy sundress for transitional style that will take you through the seasons. Chambray or denim are the go-to styles in traditional blues shades, though the fella wearing pastel pink has shown just what my wardrobe is missing.
Chic & Simple
Style doesn’t always have to be loud, and sometimes, keeping it simple by pairing classic pieces does the job better than endless clashing prints. It’s effortless, ‘I just threw this on’ style and calls for denim, block colours and a pretty neutral colour palette. You can’t go wrong.
