APPLICATION PLANS have been unveiled for a mixed-use development on part of the historic Tetley Brewery site in the south of Leeds city centre.

The development looks to encompass 13 principle buildings ranging from two to thirty storeys tall

Last October Vastint, the property division of the IKEA group, bought the 16.5 acres of land between Crown Point Road, Waterloo Street, Meadow Lane and the A61 - causing many to speculate the development of a new IKEA store.

However, in a pre-application presentation by the property business, phase one of the development looks to create 1,000 new homes, a 400-bed hotel, and 915,000 sq ft of employment space in the "phase one" area between Waterloo Street, Crown Point Road, Meadow Lane and A61.

161,450 sq ft of street-level space would be dedicated to shops, restaurants, bars, gyms, and cultural attractions. The development looks to encompass 13 principle buildings ranging from two to thirty storeys tall - the tallest of which would be located at the centre of the site.

The Tetley, which remains owned by Carlsberg UK, will continue in operation. “The City Centre Park” is an 8.6 acre green space spanning both phase one and phase two of the development - the areab between Crown Point Road, Black Bull Street and A61 which is subject to a separate planning application - in keeping with the council's vision for the area.

The development also hopes to link south-Leeds communities to the South Bank and city centre areas, while also connecting the future HS2 station to Leeds dock.
