Buyer who paid a seven-figure sum for the listed building revealed
The city centre’s historic Leeds Club, which was sold for a seven-figure sum this January , could potentially be the latest outpost of an upmarket bar-restaurant chain.
The grade II*-listed building previously operated as a conference and events venue, before dwindling profitability forced the building’s owners into a sale. Now, plans have been lodged by national pub chain Marston’s, seeking permission to open a restaurant and bar on the property.
Marstons, who began the process of buying the building for an undisclosed sum in January, intends to operate the establishment as part of its premium brand, Revere.
Several pubs currently operate under the Revere brand across the country, each offering a consistent menu of gastropub staples and steaks cooked in a charcoal oven, as well as craft beers, cocktails, and wine.
Current Revere pubs include The Angel & Blue Pig in Lymington, Florentine in Sheffield, and you might already be familiar with their existing Leeds venue The Lost & Found - Greek Street’s literature & botanical-themed cocktail bar and restaurant.
Plans for the new venue spread over two storeys, with a mixed bar and restaurant on the ground floor, and a main dining room upstairs - Marston’s vows that its ownership of the listed building would “ensure that it is both conserved and enhanced positively for the future”. The opening is expected to create around fifteen full-time, and thirty part-time jobs in the city.
