It's had a hoot at Kirkgate but The Owl's off to woo a new location

After a hugely successful two years in Kirkgate Market, The Owl has flown the nest. But while there will be some big shoes to fill for the next incumbent on Fish Row, it isn’t goodbye for the popular gastropub-style venture. Instead, The Owl will reopen at the Mustard Wharf development, with more space, an outdoor area, and a view of the canal.

Leeds’s South Bank continues to bolster its reputation as a food and drink hotspot

It’s been a whirlwind few years for Liz Cottam, who has appeared on MasterChef and The Great British Menu as well as seeing her other ventures, HOME and CORA, both make it into the Michelin guide.

On the move, she said, “We can’t wait to move into Owl’s new forever home. We’ve been working really hard to find the right spot for Owl and we’re delighted to say that we’ve found it. To be part of the exciting new Mustard Wharf development is an honour, it’s such a great new asset for Leeds and you can feel a real buzz in the air.

"Expect lots of light, picturesque views, and even some outdoor space! We’ve found the perfect spot to guzzle down some oysters and champagne on those sunny days and cosy evenings, al fresco style. All whilst gazing at the wonderful city skyline, right on the water's edge on our terrace.”

Leaving HOME party

While they wait for the new digs to be ready for launch, The Owl and its team can be temporarily found on Kirkgate in the original location for HOME, which itself now occupies a waterside location at Brewery Place.

And to make sure they leave the market with a bang, the restaurant will be hosting a six-course Wine & Dine event on Thursday 5th May. Priced at £100 a head, the evening will showcase the best of their seasonal dishes with an emphasis on local produce.

Following that, The Owl will have its last service on 21st May and relaunch at Mustard Wharf a week later, on 28th May. With so many highly-regarded businesses in the immediate vicinity, they’re certainly in good company as Leeds’s South Bank continues to bolster its reputation as a food and drink hotspot.

Bookings are already open via the website, so you’ve got no excuse not to arrange a visit.
