Millennium Square's Christkindelmarkt is on until Christmas Eve this year
Millennium Square’s Christkindelmarkt, which transforms part of the city into a traditional festive German marketplace every year has been confirmed to return this festive season, with an extended run that will see it opening right up until Christmas Eve.
Starting Friday 10 November, Millennium Square will be home to over forty wooden chalets selling all the tat that makes Christmas in Leeds Christmas in Leeds: suggestive bratwurst (never, ever get the cheese-filled one), the big marshmallow stall, salt lamps, and those annoying frog-shaped woodblocks.
As well as the market stalls, indoor bar and restaurant venues will be returning, as well as the antique-style carousel, and the recently-introduced stage hosting live performances.
Around the corner, the market will be joined by Thor’s Scandi tipi tent outside Leeds Gallery, as well as the neighbouring big wheel, giving you chance to go face-to-face with the Town Hall clock, if you fancy a bit more of a thrill than the carousel provides.
“It’s fantastic news that the German Market will be here right up until Christmas this year and I’m sure this will further enhance the overall festive experience in the city.” says Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council.
“The German Market has been one of our most popular attractions for the last 14 years now and working closely with our event partners from Frankfurt city council, our events team is always looking for ways to make it bigger, better and more inclusive.”
Leeds Christkindelmarkt opens daily from 10.30am to 9.30pm Monday to Saturday and 10.30am to 7.30pm on Sundays from Friday 10 November.
