James Lavelle's career-spanning multi-sensory exhibit comes to Leeds Dock.
Pioneering electronic music artist James Lavelle - aka Unkle - is coming to Leeds Dock this month, as part of the Waterfront Festival.
Mo’Wax founder Lavelle is curating a series of events to celebrate his upcoming new Unkle release, including an immersive exhibition combining music and visual arts, and a live Q&A on his work and cultural milestones. The weekend will finish with a headline DJ slot by James himself, on the Waterfront Festival Stage at Leeds dock from 5:30pm until 7pm.
Lavelle’s 25-year career has incorporated and influenced all branches of pop-culture, from ground-breaking music videos with Spike Jonze to genre-hopping collaborations with DJ Shadow and Ian Brown, as well as art, graphic design, and streetwear fashion projects.
The “Daydreaming with…” exhibitions - previously hosted atthe Saatchi Gallery, Southbank Centre, Somerset House, and Lazarides Gallery in Soho - aim to create a unique, multi-sensory experience, unlike anything provided by museum exhibitions or music festivals alone.
“The exhibition is a collaboration between a number of very talented artists, presenting everything from paintings, videos, artefacts and film screenings.” says Lavelle, whose exhibition will represent his many collaborators including 3D from Massive Attack, Supreme, A Bathing Ape, Converse, and Nike in the form of art and rare archive merchandise and streetwear.
“UNKLE has always been a multi-sensory creative project, ranging from genre- defining music to cutting-edge visual art. It therefore feels incredibly fitting to celebrate UNKLE’s past, present and future in Leeds, with an immersive show at the cultural hub of Leeds dock.
