YORKSHIRE CURRY institution Bengal Brasserie has set its sights on a first city centre restaurant, in Leeds’ Merrion Centre.
Bengal Brasserie will be the latest of six new brands to join the Merrion Centre in the past 12 months
The new venture - due to open on Merrion Way alongside Smoke Barbecue and Bulgogi Grill - will join the roster of Bengal Brasserie restaurants in Wetherby, York, and in Leeds suburb Burley.
The £400,000 investment “Follows on from the launch of our newly-refurbished restaurants in Leeds, Wetherby, and York” according to director Malik Dobir. “The Merrion Centre was a clear choice for us when planning our expansion to the city centre”
Set to open in Spring 2017, it’ll be the latest of six new brands to join the Merrion Centre in the past 12 months, including the new Leeds United Club store, and craft beer bar The Dockhouse.
At 3,600sq ft and 120 covers, including a 40-person private lounge area, it’ll be Bengal’s largest Leeds restaurant - creating employment opportunities for 25 people.
The announcement follows a plea from British Curry Awards founder Enam Ali MBE to Prime Minister Theresa May for a backtrack on immigration laws, which he claims will put the UK’s curry restaurant at risk, as well as the announcement of a city centre expansion for Headingley Indian restaurant Cat’s Pyjamas.
