NATIONALLY and internationally acclaimed authors are booking their train tickets to LIverpool as the city’s 12th annual Writing on the Wall festival launches this weekend.
The award-winning festival features a month-long bonanza of story-telling, poetry, creative writing and debate. Star turns include Daily Mail writer Peter Hitchens, poet Benjamin Zephaniah, and Pauline Black, lead singer with Two Tone band The Selecter.
Other highlights will include a talk with Chavs author Owen Jones, award-winning Egyptian author Ahdaf Soueif who will consider the Middle East revolutions as well as a debate on the phone-hacking scandal with Tom Watson MP, journalists, campaigners and others affected.
Owen JonesFestival organiser Mike Morris will be showcasing his first play ‘Waiting for Brando’ at the Unity.
Madeline Heneghan, festival director, said: “We are really excited about this year’s festival which offers something for everyone.
“We aim to be as current as we can and will be discussing issues that have been making headlines during the past few months, and with the guests we have lined up at venues across the city, an exciting month is in store.”
The festival also offers the chance for budding writers to enter two competitions, Flash Fiction and Pulp Idol.
Pulp Idol offers writers the chance to get the first chapter of their story in front of a major publisher or agent, whilst Flash Fiction encourages writers to pen a 500 word story, with the theme being ‘The End of the World.’
