The Reds boss revealed that since the age of 16, when on a school exchange in Luton, he had been nursing a secret desire to play crown green bowls - and this week the Holy Trinity Bowling Club in Formby made his dream come true.
But despite being LFC fans, the veteran players inflicted his worst defeat since Burnley.
And despite the warm welcome they took the opportunity to interrogate him on matters as diverse as his player buying policy, his dog’s appreciation of Formby Point and his favourite cask ale at the Freshfield pub.
Holy Trinity members club members described the occasion as "unbelievable".
