ITS festival in May was the most successful ever, but the scrawl never stops at Writing on the Wall.

It runs projects and events all year round and its latest, ‘What’s Your Story?’, sees people in print who perhaps might never have expected to be.

A diverse group of people from Toxteth and Croxteth have been working with tutors over 24 weeks, gaining experience of many forms and genres of writing, including short stories, flash fiction and poetry. They performed their work in showcases at the Writing on the Wall Festival in May and are now celebrating having their work published in book form by Writing on the Wall.

Confidence

WoW’s Director Madeline Heneghan is rightly pleased: “We are as proud of these new writers as we are with the established authors we bring to the city. Our ethos is to support new writers and help people find ways of expressing themselves. The ‘What’s Your Story?’ writing project has inspired a whole array of fascinating new stories and poems from people who have never been published before and they deserve huge credit for this achievement.”

The aim of the What’s Your Story? Project, they say, is to support personal development through creative writing and story-telling, with a view to overcoming personal isolation, increasing confidence and preparing learners for more formal learning, employment training and employment. The 24 session workshop programme offers the opportunity to engage with others, as well creative activities for self-expression and reflection.

The celebration will take place on Monday 22nd July, Liverpool Town Hall from 1pm to 3pm, and will feature a short performance by renowned poet Levi Tafari and presentation of certificates by Liverpool’s Lord Mayor, Gary Millar.
