Things to dough in June
BAKE-OFF, move over – multi-award-winning Room Forty will take it from here. It’s a mobile baking and bread-making school, so you can go to them in Warrington, or they can come to you.
We are on a mission to get people baking real bread
On Wednesday 19th June, they’ll be in Liverpool with their basics class (£50), and then back on Wednesday 25th Septemberwith a follow-up Italian Breads class (£60). Both take place at Mossley Hill Parish Church’s Hilltop Centre, 5.15-8.30pm.
Room Forty are returning to Mossley Hill by popular demand following the success of their classes last year, described as ‘great fun’ and ‘the best antidote to a busy day at work’.
Jen Perry (pictured below), owner and founder of Room Forty and one of the top 100 female food influencers in the North West, says: ‘We can’t wait to come back to the Hilltop Centre. We are on a mission to get people baking real bread. The breads we teach are additive free and so much better than the commercial varieties. Learning to bake bread is on the bucket list of almost everyone we come across and it’s easier than you think – let us show you how.’
Sign up for the Baking for Beginners workshop (suitable for ages 12 upwards) and you’ll learn how to make a soda bread, a wholemeal loaf and the famous Room Forty white loaf that took silver for taste in the Tiptree World Bread Awards, the pinnacle of excellence for craft and artisan bakers.
The class will make a quick bread, ready in 40 minutes, and all loaves are perfectly freezable. Room Forty is committed to using and sourcing local products, and your finished articles willbe free from the vast quantities of yeast, hidden sugar and salt, and additives and e-numbers that keep shop-bought bread ‘fresh’ for a week.
Participants will also be treated to a pizza-making demonstration, with slices for everyone – the class price also includes teas and coffees, and obviously you get to take away the breads you bake along with recipes to make again at home.
If it goes well, some back in September for the Italian Breads class, which introduces new techniques and expands your knowledge of the art of dough, with a Room Forty scone demonstration and hands-on instructions to make a rosemary-infused focaccia free form plus a tinned cheese and walnut ‘pane’, delicious fresh, extra special a few days later when you toast it.
