Walking the walk
Jane Jacobs (1916-2006) was an American-Canadian writer who revolutionised the way people think about cities and their development.
An eminent critic of urban renewal policies which fostered crime and poverty, “her thinking has had a positive impact on cities all over the world, including Liverpool”.
So says Matt Biagetti of Liverpool Vision, one of the people who will be leading one of two walking tours in Jane Jacobs' name, in Liverpool later this week.
600 Jane's Walks will be held this week in cities around the world. They aren't for tourists, particularly, rather they aim to encourage those who live or work in cities to discover and appreciate something more about the places they inhabit.
The Liverpool walks, this year, will centre around what is now referred to as the Ropewalks area, led by Matt Biagetti, and Baltic Triangle, led by Gerry Proctor.

Waterloo Beer Festival
We're going on a beer hunt
IT'S not often that the people get treated to a beer festival right across a Bank Holiday weekend, but this year Liverpool Organic Brewery have decided to show you a bit of love.
So heads up for the seventh Waterloo Beer Festival, taking place in the cool sandstone surroundings of Old Christ Church, L22, this Thursday right through till Sunday.
Saturday night is sold out but don't let that stop you from attending any of the other afternoon and evening sessions. After all, it's not like you have to get up or anything the next day and there is a groovy beach just down the road for you to salute the sunset when they chuck you out. Not to mention the Volunteer Canteen pub for one or two for the road on the way back to Waterloo Station.
Food will be provided by the Liverpool Nut Company, so no chance of being to full up to knock a few more ales back. 200 of them in all!

Now we are two
Camp and Furnace is turning two and there is a massive party or three coming up this weeknd to celebrate.
It all begins on Friday with Horse Meat on the menu. But don't call trading standards, it's all in the name of music.
The fabulous food slam of street eats and tasty beats will be brought to you this time by devilish disco infiltrators Horse Meat Disco and their inexhaustible vinyl knowledge. Also resident The Mighty Mojo.
It is free and all are welcome, they say, so go and help them celebrate.
