‘A homely, modern and inviting space’ - School Lane Hotel, Liverpool reviewed

School Lane Hotel is the sister brand of the luxury city break destination, Hope Street Hotel, located in the heart of the Georgian Quarter. 

You’ll find School Lane Hotel on - yep, you’ve guessed it - School Lane, just a short few minutes walk from Liverpool One and the popular Albert Docks.

Since opening their doors just a couple of months ago, the 1850s Russell Building-based hospitality spot has seen high demand for their 55 bedrooms.

Despite its central location just off the bustling Liverpool streets that become a hub for late night revellers, the five floor hotel is well soundproofed and beautifully decorated throughout with light oak furnishings, a full length beauty mirror and super king-sized beds with plush bedding.  School Lane Hotel feels more like an apartment designed for relaxing in luxury than somewhere to just lay your head for the night. No expense is spared when it comes to the finer details.

We checked in painlessly at the reception, located one floor up, on a late Saturday afternoon. Left of the front desk there’s a well stocked mini bar with wines, craft beers, mixed spirits and crisps and chocolates. We were given our keycard, told that pastries and hot drinks were available for us to take advantage of in the morning and that a member of reception staff was available 24/7 should we need them.

Our room was located on the fourth floor and felt very welcoming indeed, with all the necessities you’d expect from a luxury short-stay hotel including Temple Spa toiletries and artisan tea and coffee pouches.

We flopped back onto the bed, fully nestled in the sheets that encompassed us like a big hug. I’d not laid on a bed this comfy since I’d spent an hour killing time at Benson’s last year. Talk about snug.

After making a cup of Earl Grey, we couldn’t help but catch some Z’s before heading out for our pre-booked meal at Zenn. Feeling energised, we managed to stay out until midnight (impressive for someone who struggles to make it past 9pm) and snuck back to our room quietly so as to not disturb other sleeping guests.

After another moreish cup of tea we were out like a light, drifting into the sleepy abyss (or so it felt).  We woke around 8am, well rested and ready for a morning of tranquillity at sister venue Hope Street Hotel Spa.

Before we packed up ready to leave, I hopped into the rainfall shower and made use of the luxury toiletries at our disposal - each one smelled delicious and melted into the skin like a premium quality product should. The towels are a perfect balance between crisp enough to dry you and fluffy enough to make you want to stay wrapped in them forever. 

Another painless procedure to check out and we were left to make our own hot drinks how we liked them. A member of the team made sure that the basket of pastries were well stocked throughout the breakfast period.
