EASYJET has today announced it will operate a new route from Liverpool to the Greek island of Zakynthos - or Zante (which is easier to say).

It brings to 30 the number of destinations the budget airline is offering from John Lennon Airport ("above us only skies"), having taken a milion passengers up up and away from there last year.

easyJet says it expects to fly 6,000 passengers to the southern Greek island annually, operating once a week on Thursdays throughout this summer. The new route is on sale today with the first flights starting on April 23, 2015.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK commercial manager, said: “This announcement today highlights our commitment to providing affordable routes to summer destinations from Liverpool.

Mark Povall, Director of Air service Development, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, added: ”Zakynthos is a summer holiday destination that is popular with passengers from across the region and one that we know will do well from Liverpool.

"This new service will see increased numbers of passengers travelling from Liverpool in 2015 and a further growth in easyJet operations here.”

A new documentary TV series on the day to day life of the airport and its passengers begins filming at LJLA this spring.
