IMG modelling agency will be on the lookout for fresh faces in Liverpool (7-9 July)

Picture this: you’re ambling along the streets of Liverpool, bare-faced, with bed-head hair flapping in the wind. You’ve just thrown on jeans and a tee – you’re not going to see anyone. Except you do see someone, and they tell you that you’ve got ‘it’. Better yet, they really know what ‘it’ is; they’ve scouted the Hadid sisters, Ashley Graham and Lara Stone. And now they want to scout you too, unwashed hair and all. No, this isn’t a dream – you’re not naked, toothless or accompanied by your secondary school nemesis. Nor is it one of those dodgy gumtree scams (so put your credit card away). This is reality.

It may sound far-fetched but this once-in-a-lifetime encounter could be coming your way this summer at Liverpool’s British Style Collective (7-9 July). The fashion and beauty event has teamed up with IMG Models, the international agency behind Gigi and Bella Hadid, to find the next supermodel. Twenty talent scouts will be flocking from across the globe to the streets of Liverpool, ready to snap up Britain’s next top model.

This isn’t the first time the fashion event has used their profile to help find the next hot thing – TV Presenter Vernon Kay, model Oliver Cheshire and Erin O'Connor were all scouted at the formerly titled Clothes Show Live.

Amongst this year’s talent team will be IMG’s head scouts David Cunningham and Jeni Rose. “We are thrilled to be exclusively scouting with British Style Collective at The  Clothes  Show this July,” said IMG Models Vice President Jeni Rose. “This event is truly a staple in the UK fashion and beauty space, and a mecca for undiscovered talent.”

Behind every glamorous supermodel is a modest scouting moment; Kate Moss was spotted in an airport, Cara Delevingne at the school gates and Gisele Bundchen whilst chowing down on a Big Mac in McDonalds. So how do you make sure you stand out from the crowd at these everyday encounters? Ahead of the hotly anticipated fashion event, IMG’s top scout Jeni Rose shares her tips for aspiring models:

  • 1.The golden rule: less is more
  • 2.Don’t wear make-up
  • 3.Wear simple, form-fitting clothes
  • 4.Keep your hair relaxed
  • 5.Wear flat shoes
  • 6.Bring the squad

When it comes to spotting talent, Jeni emphasises that less is more. So, think minimal and simple when choosing your look for the day.

IMG loves fresh-faced natural beauty, so swap your Saturday night slap for a bare complexion.

Show off that fab figure without going overboard – Jeni recommends skinny jeans and a t-shirt.

Sport an easy, relaxed hair style and bring along a bobble or two in case the scout wants to see how you look with your hair up.

Save the killer heels for the catwalk and opt instead for some flats – it’ll make it easier for the talent scout to see how tall you are.

If there’s ever a time for harnessing the power of your pals, it’s at a scouting event. Surround yourself with support and encouragement and you’ll be cat-walking like Kendall in no time.
