The independent food hall and deli are looking to crowdfund their exciting new plan and need your help
Since opening on Stanley Street in 2006, delicatessen/farm shop hybrid Delifonseca has become something of a hidden treasure for foodies and cooks in and around Liverpool. The independent food shop has won national acclaim in the form of various awards and accolades including Good Food Guide reader’s Restaurant of the Year 2014, Observer Food Monthly Best Independent Retailer 2014, Farm Shop & Deli Awards’ Food Hall of the Year 2017 and Guild of Fine Foods’ Delicatessen Shop of the Year 2018.
A second location opened at Brunswick Dock in 2010, and now the company has set up a Kickstarter page to fund the ‘ambitious extension’ of its younger site. The current Dockside kitchen is very small, restricting their output for corporate catering and production of home made items for their deli counters. As the site next door has recently become available Delifonseca have plans to extend the premises to include a purpose-built training kitchen for new chefs, a new bar area and expand the dining capacity in the location’s restaurant to include a private dining/function space.
This project will be a massive financial undertaking costing over £500K with necessary but building work taking up a large proportion of that. In order to limit the amount, they need to borrow from banks, and to offer their loyal customer base an opportunity to benefit from the new plans, Delifonseca are attempting to raise £150,000 in a new crowdfunding campaign.
Proprietor Candice Fonseca said: "Since Delifonseca was established, we have become a prominent part of Liverpool's community and our customers have become more like family to us which is why we want them to continue to be a part of our journey and help propel us to the next level.
"It's no secret that we are in a time of economic uncertainty and this has had a bearing on the hospitality, restaurant and bar sector, but we are determined to remain at the forefront of the food and drink scene - our extension plans will afford us to do just that."
At time of writing, Delifonseca’s Kickstarter page had brought in £4091 of the £150,000 from 36 backers. Rewards offered for supporting the venture include limited edition china pieces, dinner for two at the new restaurant site, and cooking masterclasses. Those pledging £400 will be entitled to Delifonseca’s soup every day for a whole year, where a £1000 pledge will entitle someone to a fully catered house party with booze for ten guests.
Kickstarter campaigns work on an all or nothing basis. Delifonseca’s project will only be funded if they manage to raise the full £150,000 by the deadline of Friday 7th December 2018 at 11:00 PM.
Delifonseca are aiming to complete the renovations and reopen in Spring 2019.
