THE WHO, legendary band of rock times past, are to play their mod opus, Quadropenia, in its entirety, in a gig at the Kings Dock Echo Arena.
It's part of a UK tour and follows on from a hugely successful North American foray, praised by one and all as “a rock 'n' roll lover's dream come true”.
“Quadrophenia is their boldest and most fully realized albums,” writes Rolling Stone, “but it's never quite gotten the live show it deserves – until now”.
Liverpool fans will have a chance to make up their own minds when the band, featuring founders Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, alongside Ringo Starr's lad Zak Starkey, on drums, creaks into town on 30 June 2013.

Quadrophenia is said to have influenced the future of UK style, fashion and culture – from Paul Weller to Bradley Wiggins, from Paul Smith to Noel Gallagher. The film starred a young Sting, Phil Daniels, Ray Winstone, Trevor Laird and Lesley Ash. John Lydon (Rotten) was screen tested for a part, but the idea was dropped when insurance became an issue.

in QuadropheniaThis new concert version the album, directed by Daltrey, “focuses on the original album and replaces the narrative used in previous stage versions with powerful imagery projected on an array of massive screens, designed to support, complement and propel the musical content of the work by setting it in the context of the history of the band,” it says here.
