Elton John has added Liverpool to his ‘Wonderful Crazy Tour’, next year, saying it is always a "humbling experience to perform in a city that gave the world John Lennon and the Beatles".
The 68-year-old will bring his band to the Echo Arena for the first time since 2008, having already announced shows in Exeter, Henley, Leicester, Lincoln and Oxford.
This run of UK summer dates will coincide with the release of a new album in February.
Elton John first performed in Liverpool at the Philharmonic Hall back in 1971. Since then he has performed 12 shows in four venues in the city.
But now the Crocodile Rockster is looking at where the time goes.
“The simple truth is I want to spend more time with my family, and I am only too aware of just how precious the time ahead is. My sons are growing up so quickly; their early years are just flying by and I want to be there with them. So these concerts will give me the chance to thank the British audiences who have been so faithful to me over these many decades."
He added: "We cannot get to everyone but I am going to try and am very happy to be coming back to Liverpool for the first time in eight years. It is always a humbling experience to perform in a city that gave the world John Lennon and the Beatles, and so many other important bands as well. My band and I will do our best to live up to that tradition, as I have since my first show there at the Philharmonic Hall in 1971.“
