Boujee Liverpool has closed for business leaving Liverpool ONE with a vacant lot at one of its flagship restaurants next to Chavasse Park. Signs went up last week in the windows of Boujee at 5-6 Kenyon Steps which read, "Boujee is closed for business *Through no fault of Liverpool One." We asked Liverpool ONE's PR company for comment but they said it, "wasn't one we're able to comment on."
The site spans a 9,600 sq ft unit across two floors with room for up to 250 covers.
In July, the Liverpool ECHO reported that staff at Boujee Liverpool had not been paid full wages in recent weeks as the business struggled with “cashflow” issues.
Boujee Liverpool opened at Kenyon Steps in Liverpool ONE at the end of 2020. The Boujee brand is the creation of Lystra Adams, a model, entrepreneur, property owner and one of the Real Housewives of Cheshire. Lystra is one of three company directors for Boujee Restaurant & Bar Limited.
After claims of unpaid wages were reported in the local press, it looked as if Boujee Liverpool might be moving into the former Playground nightclub as pink signs and furniture appeared outside the Hilton terrace. However, Boujee Liverpool has now been removed from the Boujee website - the Chester and Manchester branches are still taking bookings. Boujee did not respond to our messages asking if the closure was permanent.
The site at 5-6 Kenyon Steps was previously home to Palm Sugar Lounge and Chaophraya. When Thai restaurant Chaophraya sailed into Liverpool back in 2008, it was a landmark moment for the city’s hospitality. With its opulent decor and location - in the then brand new Liverpool ONE - Chaophraya raised the bar a few notches more. It eventually closed in 2020.
The prestigious 9,600 sq ft unit spans two floors with room for up to 250 covers. It will be interesting to see who the next tenant is - will it be another Frankie & Benny's, the return of Wahaca or maybe a new Dishoom for Liverpool?
