"LET'S pick up where we left off," says Paul

"Well in that case I'm gonna sue yer," replies Ringo.

Liverpool is awash with things to celebrate the the Beatles this weekend - even more than usual.

It's the 50th anniversary of their first Parlophone single, Love Me Do, so what further excuse is needed?

A choral attempt to get into the Guinness Book of Records, by 1,400 people today at the Pier Head, has just been announced a success. Well done all!

To be followed by wall to wall fab four-ness down at the Albert Dock.

But what everyone appears to have missed is The Group have regrouped - at Whitby Studios Ellesmere Port, complete with George Martin on the mixing desk. A 64-tracker. George M had to make do with four (and a lot of bounce-downs) back in the day. The 1960s can't have been all that great.

Can the good people of Liverpool expect another eight years of 50th anniversaries from this date on? Next up would be the anniversary of the Beatles first number one, Please Please me, on February 22.

Before then, we present Chester comic Stevie Riks's latest excellent work.

Sadly, Stevie is not on the bill of this weekend's official celebration out on the windy waterfront. But no worries, this seven-minute sketch is well worth staying in the warm for.

Hold onto those wigs everyone.
