The nimble and enlightened are set to unite for an eight-hour long yoga event.

As part of International Yoga Day, 200 yogis are expected to descend on Deansgate for an all-day Yogathon on the 21 June.

Hosted by Manchester yoga experts, The Life Centre North, both devoted yogis and complete beginners will be able to try a range of yoga and meditation classes over an eight-hour period. Did we mention it’s free?

The Yogathon will take place in the Great Northern amphitheatre and nearby bar, Impossible from 12.15pm to 8.15pm with experts from The Life Centre North on hand to offer advice and tips.

Organisers say the event will be a great opportunity to work on both postures and mental health.

Mark Schofield, Centre Director for the Great Northern, said: “We’re really excited to host the second annual Yogathon this June. It’s a fantastic event, taking place in the iconic surroundings of our amphitheatre.

“We’re hoping for an even bigger turnout than last year, and we’re looking forward to welcoming spectators as well as yogis on the 21 June.”

Yogathon - for beginners and devoted yogis

Last year, more than 200 people turned out for the inaugural Yogathon event, with the organisers expecting more than twice as many to get on their mats this June.

2018’s event is being hosted in aid of Manchester homeless support charity, the Booth Centre, and a service user of the charity’s day centre will be speaking at the event to tell their story.

Kirsty Hogarth, Business Manager at The Life Centre North, said: “At The Life Centre, we are passionate about increasing awareness of Yoga’s positive impact on both the mind and body, and we hope this event will give people the opportunity to experience the benefits first hand.

“We look forward to seeing as many people as possible on the day – whether that’s taking part in a session or coming to watch the action and soak up the community atmosphere! What better way to spend the Summer Solstice than at a relaxed and welcoming community event in the heart of Manchester.”
